Who We Are
We are not an ordinary organization, we are unique. Look at us and you will see diversity of age, experience, talent and culture all working together. We are a grassroots group of individuals who have grown a nonprofit organization that is nourishing and deeply rooted in the heart of its communities and schools. We are TYD.
Vision and Mission
Hundreds of thousands of children are reading and writing, expressing themselves articulately and confidently through art and literature. Simply stated, TYD’s mission is to encourage and give voice to youth. Officially, it is to provide personal and academic development opportunities for disadvantaged and at-risk youth. This is accomplished through fine arts programs and supplementary teaching programs.
History
Chicago, Illinois served as the base for TYD until December 2004, when our operation was extended to Fort Worth, Texas where the organization quickly blossomed into a preferred premier arts and education partner.
The initial participants in TYD’s poetry program were a small handful of students from Fossil Hill Middle School in the Keller, Texas Independent School District. To celebrate these courageous new voices, TYD organized its first “Youth Poetry Slam” on April 27, 2006.
Today, TYD gives a strong foundation to the voices of hundreds of youths through the arts and literature.
We express sincere gratitude to our supporters for helping to make this possible.
